Young Reporters - Our Ambassadors

The Young Reporters for the Environment Programme are proud to have the following Ambassadors representing YRE in their communities.

Ambassadors

Josh RIchardson YRE

Joshua Richardson

YRE Alumni Ambassador

I entered the YRE competition in 2016 along with two classmates from John Paul College in Rotorua.  Our video entry focussed on the restoration of the local Utuhina stream  which flows near the school.  Through the YRE Programme I was able to combine my love of both the environment and film making to work on my YRE submission and reach the wider community with our environmental message.  It was an amazing experience to hear the news that we had won First Place in our category at the National YRE Competition.

Since then, my interest in environmental issues has grown and I was excited recently to be selected by Keep New Zealand Beautiful and YRE International for the YRE/UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Forum which was held in Portugal in March 2018.  The aim of the course is to empower participants to be inspired by ESD related issues and to be engaged in raising awareness among people to take action towards building more sustainable, just, and resilient communities.  Just two years ago I would never have imagined that this opportunity would become available to me and I feel honoured to have represented New Zealand on the world stage.  As a YRE Ambassador I am looking forward to working with and encouraging younger students who like me, will have a wealth of opportunities open to them both now and for many years to come through their involvement in the YRE network.
