Clean New Zealand Beautiful

We’ve been tackling litter since 1967 and it’s still a big part of what we do today. Our clean up events and programmes are great way to get out and about in your local community and make a difference.

Clean Up Week

Each year we hold our annual Clean Up Week – a week-long event which takes place every September.

Each year we mobilise over 50,000 volunteers during the event and

In 2020 we had 57,936 volunteers take part cleaning up an area equivalent to 4,935 rugby fields and collecting a total of 561,979kg of rubbish. That’s a lot of litter!

This is a great opportunity to get your friends, family, school, business or local community group together to participate in New Zealand’s largest clean up event.

Community clean ups

Throughout the year we support individuals, families, schools, businesses and community groups to run their own community clean up events.

Community clean ups are great fun. They’re a fantastic way to bring people together, make a difference in your local community and Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

By registering your clean up event with us we can support you with free clean up kits and resources.

Butt bins

Our National Litter Audit 2019 identified cigarette butts as the most commonly littered item by count nationally. But we can help.

We offer free butt bins to members, councils and businesses to eradicate cigarette butt litter from our streets and public spaces.
