Arapohue School Unity The background environment would depict our local landscape – our rural farmland that sustains us (especially in challenging times like now!), our maunga, Maungaraho that overlooks our school would be in the background. We would then have silhouettes of our students holding hands in the foreground. Kia Kaha koutou – we are stronger together – the importance of supporting each other and being strong together. Broomfield School Together we Are One The image represents our unique local environment, including Mt Grey, Waipara River, Vineyards, Farm land. Our title “Together We Are One” is shown through the ‘pieces’ of mural, when all the colours come together they form one image – which is one of our school values, Belonging. As the students explore colour within their own environment we hope to put ‘nature on display’ and get them to think about and be inspired their natural environment more by celebrating all the different colours and textures that nature has. Keeping our backyard ‘clean and green’! Conifer Grove School Paddling the Waka Together to Reach New Horizons Our mural is our school vision where we work together, supporting one another to reach new goals. Our local community is vibrant and diverse. Our streets are lined by trees and we have beautiful Reserves and walkways. Conifer Grove is located on the Eastern shores of the Pahurehure Inlet with water from the Manukau Harbour and in the evenings we are spoilt with a beautiful views. I have sent in our Entry however the waka in the picture will be different. As you can imagine with schools shutting with no knowledge, my student was not able to finish her picture with the other waka. I have attached a photo of the waka that she would like to replace the one on her design that I’ve sent in. Glenavy School Haerenga (Journey) The mural celebrates the children of our school and the journey they take through their primary education, each bird represents their classroom, we have 4 classrooms, Room 1 Little Blue Penguin (Korora), Room 2 Fantail (Piwakawaka), Room 3 Kea and Room 4 is the NZ Falcon (Karearea). The sea is representing the children’s growth from pre-school to their first day at school where the rocks represent them being placed on solid ground to start their educational journey, then being carried along the Waitaki River through their schooling years. The birds start with the little Korora, then they move onto the Piwakawaka a cheeky bright little bird to the more solid but still cheeky Kea and finally the Karearea that takes flight onto the next stage of their education. The message we promote is to carry our children on a journey of Integrity, respect, self management and community support, to care for others as well as nature. Grantlea Downs School Cultural Celebration Our mural is celebrating the diverse culture of Grantlea Downs school whānau as well at the beautiful area Timaru is situated in. Timaru is surrounded by mountains (Mt Cook) the sea, lakes and beautiful forests. Grantlea Downs is made up of children from 20 different nationalities, a selection of these students have begun to create a mural incorporating national animals and plants from each of these counties and combining them with our local landscape into one mural. Celebrating NZ clean green environment combined with the message we are all one nation and can live happily in harmony despite our diverse cultural backgrounds. Hatea-a-Rangi School A Tatou Korero – Our Stories The mural on our school grounds will illustrate the stories of our tipuna, Ruataupare and Te Aotawarirangi to reinforce our localised curriculum. Kawai Rangatira, “Be a rangatira/chief” We are descendants of greatness. Celebrating the graduant’s of our school and the educational institutions established on these grounds. This environment grows success. Our tamariki, hunt, gather and grow food from the land, sea and waterways of Tokomaru Bay. These areas sustain our existence. Traditional kowhaiwhai, taniko and carving patterns with be woven through all murals to emphasise the dual heritage of our community. Kaharoa School Ta Matou Pai Ake We aim to develop future citizens of strong character who understand and follow clear objective values and who appreciate our natural environment. We have a strong relationship with our local Kaharoa Kokako Trust. The Kokako is our school symbol and represents the work our local community is doing to protect this unique bird. Levin Intermediate Kiwiana This mural concept was created by a Y8 student who recognizes that the Kiwiana concept and icons are apart of our community. Levin has many market gardens in the area so fruit and vegetables can be seen on the mural. Many students can associate with visiting the diary before or after school to get what they need or for treats. Kiwiana is a concept we would like to celebrate in a mural to brighten up our school. Spotswood College Nga Atua It will tell stories of Nga Atua Maori gods. It celebrates our culture and our heritage and makes us think of our own connection to the land and sea that surrounds our school It also is intended to reflect our own personal strengths by drawing the atua like superheros. It has been drawn and designed by two junior students. It celebrates that land and sea by incorporating Tangaroa and Hinemoana of the sea and Tane of the forest. The Terrace School (2) Central Otago – What is Special About Our Place The blue water, bridges and golden hills, tussocks – the colours of Central Otago.
