Congratulations to Michael Barnes, our December Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to our final Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month for 2022, Michael Barnes.

Michael, aged 11, has a passion for trains, and he loves to help out at the Hutt Valley Model Experimental and Enginner Society (HVMES) Miniature railway. The older members have taken him under their wing, helping him learn about how trains and other engineering projects work. And because there’s a culture of ‘safety first’, regular working bees are held to maintain the track. Michael is a keen volunteer who helps keep the tracks and the surrounding areas neat, clean and looked after.

Michael is a friendly and responsible lad who is also active at his school, recently helping paint the vegetable and flower pots at the community gardens as part of a school project, cleaning up litter at the school with his younger buddies, and is a student librarian and road patroller. He’s also a Scout, loves exploring a hill or checking out the beach, and does his part to Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

Ka pai Michael! As our Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month, Michael will receive a Keep New Zealand Beautiful merchandise pack and a Resene paint voucher for fixing up any local graffiti he comes across – along with being automatically nominated for the Tidy Kiwi Award at our annual Beautiful Awards!

Know someone keeping New Zealand beautiful? Simply nominate them on our website to become a Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month – every winner also gets the opportunity to be recognised at our Beautiful Awards.
