Congratulations to Madison Saunderson, November’s Volunteer Of The Month

Congratulations again, Keith, and thank you so much for your hard work to Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

Madison has been participating in Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s clean-up initiatives for the past seven years. When her mum was involved in peer reviewing data for a Tier 1 National Litter Audit, Madison tagged along collecting rubbish and monitoring the litter categories she would pick up, with her mum’s help of course.

On a family holiday to Fiji last year, Madison developed a deep understanding of the issues facing the local Fijian community.

After speaking with her parents, Madison approached Habitat for Humanity about her desire to take part in one of their building initiatives. Health and safety regulations prohibit a child of her age from volunteering in this capacity; so, Madison and her brother decided to volunteer at Habit HQ over the past three terms of school holidays, packing volunteer kits that are distributed locally and internationally.

She then decided that she would embark on a personal challenge for Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village programme, with a goal of raising $10,000 and a commitment to tackle the Routeburn Track, a 32 kilometre, three day tramp in the South Island. To date, Madison has raised $4,160 for Habitat’s Global Village initiative and is trying to partner with local property developers in order to raise more money.

Congratulations again Madison, and thank you so much for your hard work to Keep New Zealand, and the world, beautiful.
