31 Jul 2025 Craig’s journey started with picking up a few stray pieces of rubbish near his home. But with a fast-food outlet, a high school, and a cricket field nearby, he quickly realised the scale of the issue. Over a 15-hour period, he collected enough discarded cans to fill a 240-litre recycling bin – a stark reminder of the impact of littering. “It’s amazing how much of a difference one person can make, but imagine what we could achieve together as a community,” says Craig. “I’d love for more locals to join me in keeping Te Puke beautiful – every small action adds up to a big impact.” Craig sought out the Keep New Zealand Beautiful website and discovered what other groups in New Zealand were doing. With KNZB help Carig established Keep Te Puke Beautiful earlier this year. He has created a Facebook page and is now engaging with other volunteers and council to clean up the area. Recently Craig has been assisting Epic Te Puke plan their Great Te Puke Tidy Up week in September, (to coincide with Clean-Up Week) and is specifically aiming at getting local schools involved.
