25 Aug 2026 When Ashley and his partner Gillian travel around New Zealand they pick up rubbish from the scenic and picnic spots they stop at. Seeing the size of the litter problem and wanting to do more Ashley searched out Keep New Zealand Beautiful and made contact to see how they could become further involved. As there was no group on the Kapiti Coast where they live, Ashley decided to start one. Now, with support from KNZB and the Kapiti Coast District Council, Ashley and Gillian are making a huge effort to Keep Kapiti Beautiful. In additional to organizing and running public clean up events Ashley supports students from local schools with their cleanup efforts by turning up to help and by supplying grabbers, vests, gloves and sacks. Each week he teams up with Hohepa Wellington to do pickups in local Kapiti parks. And his highlights: – finding his biggest piece of rubbish so far on a recent trip to Kapiti Island, working with the college students and chatting to people about the KNZB branding on his car.
