Congratulations to our Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month for February, Hunter Scott!

Congratulations to our Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month, Hunter Scott.

Hunter is 11-years-old and is from Maraekakaho, about 30km west of Hastings. He spends his summer at his family’s bach in Mahia and during his holiday takes any opportunity he can get to walk down to the beach reserve and collect litter.

“I just do it because I enjoy it. I do it to help the environment out because I really care about the animals and nature. I really think it’s sad that people decide to litter right next to rubbish bins, it’s not that hard to put rubbish in the rubbish bin,” says Hunter.

Hunter’s mum, Kate says that Hunter is always desperate to collect litter when they are back home in Maraekakaho but it is just too unsafe on the rural roads. “When we are in Mahia, Hunter loves that there are footpaths and he can walk down to the beach so he’s off collecting litter all the time.”

Hunter has been picking up litter in Mahia for the past three years after being inspired by a Youtuber called The Almighty.

Congratulations again Hunter and thanks for all your hard work to clean up, look after and protect our environment..
