Congratulations to Des Watson, our Volunteer of the Month for February!

Congratulations to Des Watson, our Volunteer of the Month for Febraury

Des’ litter journey started on 1 January 2019. After coming into an inheritance, Des decided to spend his inheritance money on travelling around New Zealand picking up litter. He spent the majority of 2019 cleaning up the South Island, and estimates that he gathered approximately 15 tonnes of rubbish there.

He started the Facebook page, Kiwis Clean Aotearoa, to bring attention to the massive litter issue in New Zealand. Des is motivated by the desire to keep litter out of stormwater drains that lead to the ocean, and hopes this journey will be an inspiration to people everywhere.

If you would like to help Des, you can donate to his Givealittle page.

Congratulations again Des, and thank you so much for your hard work to Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

The winner of Volunteer of the Month receives $100, a Keep New Zealand Beautiful t-shirt, a bag, Resene paint voucher, Klean Kanteen drink bottle and more – along with being automatically nominated for the Tidy Kiwi award at our annual Beautiful Awards!
