10 Jun 2016Communities across New Zealand came together to celebrate Arbor Week which was on last week. This initiative was developed as a joint venture by Keep New Zealand Beautiful alongside Paper4Trees in 2015 and is scheduled to coincide with World Environment Day. Arbor Week is aimed at schools, businesses and civic organisations to set up planting events to secure a greener future for New Zealand. Keep New Zealand Beautiful CEO, Heather Saunderson says it is thanks to schools all over New Zealand that Arbor Week has been established. “Schools who were unable to plant the trees they received from a Paper4Trees recycling scheme have donated them back to the community which has allowed us to set up Arbor Week” says Ms Saunderson. In addition to this Ben and Jerry’s have come on-board as a partner for Arbor Week and very kindly donated seedlings for our Central Auckland planting. This year events happened right across New Zealand and saw over 870 seedlings being planted. Plantings took place in: Central Auckland South Auckland West Auckland Kelston Boys Whakatane Hastings Tauranga Feilding Levin/Horwhenua Far North Rangiora Thanks to everyone who came along to one of the plantings and for your help to preserve our environment for the future.
