8 Jun 2016On Wednesday 8th June as part of Keep New Zealand Arbor Week, volunteers from all parts of the community gathered together on a blustery morning to plant the second section of native seedlings in the DoC 10 year plan at Fort Takapuna on the clifftop of Narrowneck beach.The event organised by Keep New Zealand Beautiful, with funding for the seedlings from Ben & Jerry’s and Paper4Trees, the guidance and expertise of DoC and manpower from two local Bunnings stores, EcoStore, BAT, the Langham Hotel and the enviro group of students from local Vauxhall School saw over 160 seedlings planted successfully.Keep New Zealand Beautiful and DoC will continue to work together and put this event on their annual calendar, they anticipate and hope to increase the number of seedlings and volunteers to grow over the next 8 years. Project Manager Joanne Powell says – “It was wonderful to see so many people in the community working together. Each person and organisation played an important role in making this event a success and the native seedlings being planted in this reserve will not only protect and enhance the clifftops but also ensure the breath taking beauty of this spot remains for future generations”.Share this page
