Waimakariri River Clean Up

It was a fresh start for volunteers on a recent Sunday morning when Environment Canterbury Regional Parks and the local 4WD Club; along with many other volunteers, targeted known hot spots on the North bank of the Waimakariri River. Everyone worked a solid two hours, and the litter recovered filled 2 large skips, x1 full trailer … not to mention the tyres collected! The volunteers that showed up were amazing, making a big difference in the district. Maria Lamb aka Tidy Kiwi Otautahi said the area was frequently targeted due to the easy 4WD access and the wider area been hidden from view. Measures are being taken to discourage fly-tipping but in the meantime, local park rangers have their work cut out for them.
