Congratulations to Sue our October Volunteer of the Month

Sue lives in Hobsonville Point, a reasonably recent housing development in West Auckland.

The area was initially an air base for both land and sea aviation and was governed by the Waitakere City Council until the formation of the Auckland Council in 2010. Since then, the airbase has been rebuilt as a suburb of Auckland, and housing has grown dramatically.

For years Sue has been organizing residents and devoting her time to maintain the numerous walkways and boardwalks which need constant attention. She picks up rubbish, plants shrubs, weeds, and spreads mulch.

And, she has even been known for giving the occasional telling off to residents who drop their dog poo bags on the walkways or throw them under bushes.
“If you can’t be bothered to carry your dog poo home, don’t put it in a plastic bag, scrape a hole, scrape the poo into it and cover it up! At least that way it would decompose”
