3 Apr 2023Congratulations to Isaac Adams, our Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month for March. It’s well known that the railway corridors throughout New Zealand attract an enormous amount of rubbish and graffiti, as evidenced in our National Litter Audit. Organising a clean up near a railway is a safety and logistical nightmare — unless you know Isaac! Isaac is employed by KiwiRail in Wellington as their Operational Safety Adviser. This year he celebrates 40 years of service and dedication to safety, and he’s passionate about making the railway corridors clean and tidy. For the last four years he has been partnering with Keep Hutt Valley Beautiful to organise clean ups and graffiti removal in the railway corridors throughout the region. Isaac arranges the clean up dates to coincide with maintenance shutdowns, and on the day ensures that all KiwiRail safety protocols are upheld so that our volunteers remain safe at all times. When an event has been arranged he not only volunteers his own time to assist he also turns up with biscuits and refreshments for all of the volunteers, plus he brings a tandem axle trailer so he can take all the collected rubbish away! What a legend! The Keep Hutt Valley Beautiful Team has found working with Isaac an absolute pleasure. He’s a credit to KiwiRail and the New Zealand environment. Whakamihi – congratulations! As this month’s Tidy Kiwi Volunteer of the Month, Isaac will receive a Keep New Zealand Beautiful merchandise pack and a Resene paint voucher to help him continue his beautification efforts along the rail corridors of the lower North Island, as well as being entered into this year’s Beautiful Awards.
