DESCRIPTION:Join Ghost Diving New Zealand at Balaena Bay for a community cleanup!This will be an ocean and shore based clean up targeting rubbish in Balena Bay. \n\n\n\nScuba divers\, free divers and shore crew all needed! \n\n\n\nDATE: Saturday 16th AugustTIMES:9.00am – Registrations open9:45am – Briefing10.00am – Divers in the water2.00pm Clean-up and pack down \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Balaena Bay – look for the GDNZ signs.Scuba Divers who wish to participate must have a minimum of 30 dives and can produce a dive log and be comfortable working in low / zero visibility. \n\n\n\nScuba and Free Divers must provide their own gear and tanks. If you also have your own catch bag(s) or float boat for collecting rubbish\, please bring this along and ensure they are named. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to join in the fun and participate as part of the shore crew\, you will need to make sure you are wearing fully covered shoes and bring a pair of gardening gloves… also be prepared to get wet and dirty! \n\n\n\nALL PARTICIPANTS\, SHORE CREW AND DIVERS MUST REGISTER ON ARRIVAL.PLEASE NOTE:• This is a free\, family friendly event\, but children must be supervised at all times by an adult.• Closed toe footwear must be worn for safety.• Please bring your own hand protection (gardening gloves or similar).• Don’t forget your own water bottle and bring sunscreen if it’s a warm day.• Dress for the weather (warm clothes and jackets)• There will also be plenty of work for non-divers to get involved.Should the event be cancelled due to circumstances out of our control\, notification will be given on the Facebook page the night before. DESCRIPTION:In September each year we hold an annual Beach Clean-Up event where local businesses and the community join in on our efforts to clean up Tāhunanui Beach\, the inlet\, the Back Beach and surroundings as part of New Zealand’s largest movement against litter during Clean Up Week.In 2024 around 200 people attended our event and collected 500 kilos of rubbish in just 3 hours.The Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park team is really proud of the legacy we’ve been creating for New Zealanders since 1926\, creating fabulous holiday memories! We’re all custodians of our beautiful shoreline and we’re committed to keeping Tāhunanui Beach beautiful and enjoyable for future generations\, our moana\, wildlife and coastal economies.
