DESCRIPTION:‘Do the Right Thing’\, get together with your friends and whanau to make a collective difference in your neighbourhood! \n\n\n\nJoin the Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park team and other local businesses and the community in their efforts to clean up the main beach of Tāhunanui on Sunday 24 September 2023 as part of New Zealand’s largest movement against litter during Clean Up Week 2023.  \n\n\n\nClean Up Week is a nationwide initiative focusing the community’s attention on how much litter is polluting our environment\, with volunteers last year helping to remove over 655 tonnes of litter nationwide\, across an area equivalent to 5\,751 rugby fields! \n\n\n\nThere will be a Thank You BBQ and prizes for the most bags/most litter collected as well as spot prizes. \n\n\n\nRemember to dress appropriately\, ie wear sturdy shoes\, long sleeve shirts/trousers\, a sun hat and bring some water to drink! We also encourage everyone to bring their own gardening or other reusable gloves and any reusable/jute/firewood bags or buckets to collect with\, although we will provide gloves and bags if you don’t have any\, as well as litter pick-up tools\, sunblock and bug spray. \n\n\n\nFor Health & Safety reasons\, please note that all volunteers need to register on arrival and fill out a registration form. (It will only take a minute\, we promise!)  \n\n\n\nLook out for our gazebo near the Rocks Road end of Tāhunanui Beach behind the playground with the ‘Registration’ sign! \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP here\, and feel free to share this event with your friends and family! \n\n\n\nThe Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park team is really proud of the legacy we’ve been creating for New Zealanders since 1926\, creating fabulous holiday memories!  We’re all custodians of our beautiful shoreline and we’re committed to keeping Tāhunanui Beach beautiful and enjoyable for future generations\, our moana\, wildlife and coastal economies. DESCRIPTION:CORDE is assembling a dedicated team for a significant community effort – the resitalization of the Avon River and its adjacent streets. Our mission encompasses the stretch along the Avon River\, spanning from the iconic Bridge of Remembrance to the Fitzgerald Ave Bridge. \nOur central hub for organisation and gathering will be the picturesque Margaret Mahy Family PlayGround BBQ Area. From this point\, we will deploy teams in both directions along both banks of the river. The collected materials will then be returned to the Margaret Mahy Family PlayGround\, where they will be meticulously sorted and responsibly disposed of. \nTo culminate this rewarding day of community service\, we will come together for a delightful shared BBQ\, prepared and cooked by the CORDE team.

To keep this litter from reaching our precious oceans\, we need to pick it up and dispose of it correctly while it is still on land. That is where you come in! \n\n\n\nKeep New Zealand Beautiful will provide the rubbish bags and gloves\, as well as having a photo set up and stickers\, and M&Ms to give away. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to join us please use the RSVP function below or email lauren@knzb.org.nz with the ‘Cockle Bay Reserve’ in the subject line. DESCRIPTION:We’re calling on all aspiring citizen scientists of Aotearoa to take action against litter by participating in Battle Week from 7-14 April 2024. \n\n\n\nIt’s easy to get involved and great opportunity to try your hand at citizen science. \n\n\n\nSimply register to hold your own Upstream or Backyard Battle between 7-14 April\, and you’ll be helping us to understand the litter issue around both waterways and inland. \n\n\n\nThe data collected at an Upstream or Backyard Battle provides a secondary dataset to our National Litter Audit and feeds into a shared database that helps to inform local and national legislation\, our educational programming and behaviour change campaigns. \n\n\n\nJoin other schools\, community groups and volunteers throughout New Zealand who are passionate about the environment and who are coming together to make a difference and contribute proactively to the solution.

SUMMARY:Upper Waitematā Coastal Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:It’s back!  After an amazing event in 2024\, the Upper Waitematā Coastal Clean up is coming to a shoreline near you in 2025.  Join us as we try to beat the 20m³ of rubbish\, 25 tyres and 340 volunteer hours we clocked up last year.  Every piece of litter you help pull out is one less piece finding its way out to our beautiful ocean. \n\n\n\nThis isn’t your typical coastal litter pick\, you will be in the muddy bits where the rubbish collects\, off the beaten track and seeing bits of Auckland you probably don’t normally see.  Don’t expect white sands! As a result\, we need to ensure that all children 15 years old and under MUST have adult supervision\, they won’t be able to take part without it.  Children are welcome to join us\, of course\, they just need a participating adult with them. We ask that you keep your 4 legged friends at home as well please. \n\n\n\nWe’ll provide you with gloves and buckets and a sausage sizzle to say thanks but please come dressed to get muddy and wet – we’ll go ahead unless there really is severe weather that makes it unsafe.  Shoes will get stuck and socks will get muddy so gumboots are highly recommended.   \n\n\n\nWith limited capacity at each site\, we ask that you register for the location you would like to join us at and we’ll be in touch with further information.  Things are kept a bit vague so we make sure we have the right equipment for the number of people booked.  Do get in touch with Rachael at uwen.manager@gmail.com if you would like to book in a large group or find out if a site is suitable as some sites will have better accessibility than others.
