On Saturday the 17 September Wheeler Motor Company is proudly participating in “Clean up Week”\, which is a nationwide annual event run by Keep New Zealand Beautiful. \nWe will be doing our part to clean up the city by picking up litter as would love for you to join us for a fun day. SUMMARY:Green Island Tunnel Area Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:I regularly walk through the Abbotsford/Green Island Tunnel from Runciman Street Abbotsford to GI and always look at the rubbish and weeds that have taken over on the other side of the fence line. It disappoints me as I was part of the volunteers from The Green Island Plunket group approx 20 years ago who cleaned up the area and did a native tree planting fundraiser. There was a rock with a plaque of the news of businesses and families who donated to this. Over the years the plaque has been defaced and the area overgrown and rubbish lying around. This area was meant to be ongoingly maintained by the DCC but seems over the years been forgotten. So with Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s Clean Up Week being promoted by our local community group I felt it fitting to put a hand up for this area. The plan is to pick up rubbish through the tunnel\, walk area and hopefully clear the overgrown weeds at the fence line and hopefully clean up the plaque.I hope others will join myself and my 9 yr old daughter in helping us clean this area in our community 😄

DESCRIPTION:For Our Real Clean Environment will host the Love Whangārei Monthly Clean Up on Saturday 17th September as part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s Clean Up Week. \nWe will be based on the corner of Cross Street and Gorrie Road to clean up along the Kamo shared path. Meeting at 10am and working through until about 12pm. \nWe want to bring awareness to the local businesses\, schools and residents about how much and what type of litter is ending up in the environment\, so we will be conducting a litter audit as part of the event. \nWe will have volunteering opportunities for a mix of abilities with mixed terrain as well as litter sorting and can crushing to do at the trailer. \nWe will supply gloves\, buckets\, bags\, high vis\, sanitizer\, sunblock\, first aid and water. You need to bring sturdy shoes and motivation. \nPlease note if you are attending the event\, we are being asked to advise everyone; stay home if ill – or been asked to isolate. Please park up courteously and leave some spaces for those who are visiting the location.
