SUMMARY:Blue Flag
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised and respected eco-label that is awarded annually to beaches\, marinas and sustainable tourism boating operators which have met strict criteria in four categories. \nIt was founded in 1987 and is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)\, a non-profit organization based in Denmark. There are currently over 4\,000 Blue Flags flying in 48 countries. New Zealand’s National Operator of the Blue Flag programme is Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB). \nThe categories a beach\, marina or sustainable tourism boating operator must meet are:   \n\nWater Quality\nEnvironmental Management\nEnvironmental Education\nSafety & Services\nSocial Responsibility\n\nThe criteria are further categorised as either imperative or guideline. Imperative criteria must be complied with in order for a marina\, beach or sustainable boating tourism operator to be awarded a Blue Flag. Guideline criteria are strongly encouraged\, but are not mandatory. \nWhat makes the Blue Flag programme so unique and successful is its holistic nature. The standards were developed to ensure that Blue Flag sites are not only clean and environmentally sustainable\, but provide the facilities and services that tourists around the world look for. It is for this reason that the Blue Flag programme is embraced by the World Health Organization\, the World Tourism Organization\, and the United Nations Environmental Programme. \nBlue Flag performs random and announced control visits to Blue Flag marinas\, beaches and sustainable boating tourism operators during the boating season in order to ensure that all criteria are being met. This is critical to ensure that all awarded sites uphold the integrity of the programme. \nIf you are interested in becoming an accredited beach\, marina or sustainable tourism boating operator you can review our criteria hand books and additional resources below. \n\nCriteria for beaches\nInformation and fees for beaches\nCriteria for marinas\nInformation and fees for marinas\nCriteria for sustainable boating tourism operators (SBTO)\nInformation and fees for SBTO\nBlue Flag Calendar\n\n2017/2018 New Zealand Blue Flag Awards \nMarinas \n \n \n \nBoats \n \nFor more information please contact us:  \n\nEmail: education@knzb.org.nz\nCall: Mon-Thurs (09) 264 1434.\n\n

SUMMARY:YOUNG REPORTERS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT 2018
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nYRE HOME  | RESOURCES | RULES |2017 RESULTS | EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST\nLITTER LESS FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAMME 2018 \nSchools can now register their expression of interest for the 2018 Young Reporters for the Environment Programme (YRE). \nWe have partnered again with Wrigley’s to offer the YRE Litter Less Programme to New Zealand schools.  This well-established and internationally recognised programme will be offering enthusiastic young people a chance to make their voices heard and to feel that they are being listened to. \nProgramme Goal \nThe goal of the YRE Litter Less is to reduce litter and affect long-term behaviour change among young people.  It aims to empower young people to take a stand on environmental issues they feel strongly about and to give them a platform to articulate these issues through the media of writing\, photography or video.  Students are also encouraged to link their projects to one of the 17 United nations Sustainable Development Goals which were adopted by world leaders in 2015. \nProgramme Summary \n\nThe programme is designed for students aged 11 – 18 years.\nStudents simply need to pick an environmental topic relating to litter\, investigate it\, and then report on it using one of three categories:  Writing\, Photography and Film.\nStudents will then need to organise a ‘Community Action Day’ where they raise awareness of an environmental litter issue to the whole school and/or wider community.\nStudents are then invited to submit their assignments to the YRE competition for a chance to win fantastic electronic prizes and the opportunity to attend a ‘winners workshop’ and award ceremony.\nWe will be taking expressions of interest for the YRE 2018 programme from November 2017 through to February 2018.\nSchools will then be invited to sign up for the YRE Litter Less programme in February and March.\nWe will provide all schools with lots of resources including: a classroom guide\, handbooks and worksheets. (Check them out here).\nUsing these resources\, you can then choose how best to incorporate this programme in your school and classroom curriculum.\nYou can choose to implement the programme in to selected classes\, or you can run it throughout the whole school.\nYou can also choose if you would like to run as 1-2 lesson plan\, or follow the full classroom guide and run for a term.\n\nExpressions Of Interest  \nIf you are interested in taking part in Young Reporters For The Environment – Litter Less programme in 2018 please fill in our expression of interest form here. \nYRE Competition \nTo view the winning entries from the 2017 competition\, please click here. \nThis programme is proudly brought to you by: \n\n\n\n\n\n         \n\n\n
