JANUARY VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH – SUPPORTED BY NEW ZEALAND COURIERS AND RESENE

Janet Brown has been volunteering at her local branch of “Keep Levin Beautiful” since 2008. Since signing up seven years ago, due to the branch recruiting  newbies, Janet has literally thrown herself into her volunteer role.

Every Wednesday from 9/11am along with other dedicated Gardeners, she could be found at the local historical Thompson House. Weeding, pruning, planting and watering when needed.

Janet has been the lady who often leads “clean up week” in the Horowhenua due to her organisation skills and dedication to get the job done. Registrations often are listed through Janet because she’s known to the many clubs and groups whom take part.

Also school visits are organised through Janet. This year 4 schools received a visit from KLB, where reuse, reduce, recycle are talked about. Many children sharing their ideas and what their own families are doing towards a cleaner environment.

Junior neighbourhood support Horowhenua is good to liaise with as a local partner as they set out their program in schools that often feeds well into our own ethos.

The children create their clean up week posters in their JNS books along with their diary notes of their success’s.

Being a nation to KNZ beautiful, alongside providing community-based activities and educational programs inspiring and motivating the nation participating in restoration, care and protection of Local and national environments.

Janet says; “If every resident and every business took responsibility to pick up litter outside their place, the problem would be solved”. “If people could achieve this once, it could inspire them to carry on picking up litter in the future, without it being an organised project”.

Keep Levin Beautiful would like to wish Janet and her Husband well in their next adventure of leaving the beautiful Horowhenua, and heading to Pt. Chevalier in Auckland. Thank you Janet for your time, dedication, guidance and support over your time with us.
