Paint New Zealand Beautiful Events

Saturday 24th April 2010

Paint New Zealand Beautiful Week 2010 is kicking off with a bang in Tokoroa this year, on Saturday 24th of April.  There’s not many (“if any”) places in NZ that can say they’re graffiti free, but Tokoroa has it ‘covered!’  Tokoroa launched their 0800 NO TAGS number in 2008, where the community can call in and report graffiti, the graffiti is recorded onto a database for investigation and removed quick-smart to prevent it from occurring again... and it’s just one great example of what our towns and cities can do in preventing graffiti from being a problem in our environments.  Keep New Zealand Beautiful is creating a massive community mural that will take shape prior to launch day, then come the 24th everyone in town will get a chance to be part of the mural, by colouring it in with their handprints – giving it life and leaving a legacy for Tok to be proud of and show off to the rest of the country.  As well as the mural we have loads of giveaways, we’ll have the BBQ cranking for a good old sausage sizzle and live tunes will be pumping all day.  Get there and be part of the party!

Dunedin is next on the hit list for some mural magic, and the building site wall for the re-vamped stadium is the canvas we’re using!  If you’re in that neck of the woods rock on down and check it out!

Just down the road in wee Appleby this old fish and chip shop will be getting the makeover of a lifetime, only no lippy and eye shadow here!  We’ll show you the end results after the murals are completed – just think of how much more beautiful New Zealand will be in a weeks time!

We’re jumping back up country to Rotorua where we’re slapping a huge Keep New Zealand Beautiful logo on the side of the Habitat Restore building in Edmund Rd – this is going to look awesome, and if you’re keen to help get in touch with Christine Findon at Keep Rotorua Beautiful – christine.findon@rdc.govt.nz

New Zealand’s most Beautiful Town 2009 is at it again, creating a masterpiece at Glenvale Reserve.  The reserve borders the Northern Motorway and is an attraction for graffiti vandalism from time to time... but not anymore!  The climbing rose  on the fence is to be removed completely so that the mural will  be the feature of that part of the Rhododendron garden.  Awesome!
