Online Game Encourages Kids To Think About Sustainability

Thirty thousand children from all over the world regularly participate in activities on the MiniMonos site. A New Zealand Website that makes it cool to recycle.

Kiwi entrepreneur/mother founded the website MiniMonos, which means little monkeys in Spanish. MiniMonos is an online game for children, they create a monkey avatar for themselves and venture off into a virtual world that focuses on sustainability and generosity within an online community while having fun. It doesn't teach kids about sustainability, instead sustainability is normalised. Kids quickly realise that if they don't clean the lagoon, the fish don't come back, if they don't recycle thier tree houses get messy. It appears that the kids who play this game have learnt new habbits from their experiences in the virtual world and these habbits have found their place in the real world.
