Chairperson's ReportHON. ROGER MCCLAY AGM AND CONFERENCE
What a magnificent conference and Annual General Meeting we had in Waitakere in late September. Well organised, well attended and well done everyone concerned. It was a significant time for KNZB as we celebrated 40 years of activity and programmes, and contemplated the future of the organisation. As your Chairman I was delighted to note the obvious enthusiasm for what has been done and about what more can be done in the years ahead. It was very encouraging to find so many new and younger members also willing to become involved in our activities, culminating in the election of a new board with tons of new talent and plenty of enthusiasm about what KNZB stands for. I welcome new board members, and thank those who are continuing from past years of service to keep our land clean, green, sustainable and beautiful. RESTRUCTURING MOVES The remit session at the conference this year was lively and even entertaining. There was no doubting the passion within our ranks for issues like Container Deposit Legislation, graffiti and the future direction of the administration of KNZB. With respect to the latter, work has already begun on implementing the remit passed which said: "That the incoming board of KNZB undertake a study of possible changes to zone boundaries for KNZB Inc, which would better enable the organisation to meet strategic targets and reflect a more easily serviced organisation around the country by zone representatives." Work is underway too on the remit carried at the AGM calling for some restructuring in administration: "That the incoming board carry out an exercise (which engages expertise in the field) with a view to restructuring of the organisation so that current and forseeable needs can be met. Such an exercise is to take into account costs and ways in which these can be met, including other income opportunities. The results of the study to be reported back at the next AGM or a Special General Meeting, for decision about any changes recommended." TIME TO GROW It was fantastic to note the enthusiasm around the country with respect to possible growth opportunities for KNZB programmes. The following communities were indicated as worth exploring for new programmes, and current programmes will work on these possibilities in the coming year. The new board will discuss these at each of our meetings over the next year, as we certainly want to have an organisation which is growing and spreading the KNZB message everywhere in New Zealand.
SOME PRIORITIES My own priorities for the coming year are very much about three important aspects for KNZB:
Thank you all for your ongoing commitment to the ideals of Keep New Zealand Beautiful. With your help in the next year I want to ensure that our generous sponsors and supporters are well pleased with the progress and impact we are all able to make toward keeping our nation beautiful. Hon. David Parker.
