HAVE CRUSHER WILL TRAVEL

BARRY LUCINSKY

"Innovation is the essence of success"&

John Webber asked the question:"What can we do with the stockpiles of empty bottles accumulating in yards around New Zealand?"

Simple answer - crush them and utilise the crushed glass in roading material and building aggregate.

Alright! So to cut a long story short, a mobile glass crusher was born. It is black and beautiful. Presently it does not have a name - the naming competition is yet to be finalised.

So the call goes out - who do we show the glass crusher to?

Why not take it to the Beehive? Great idea, great function - the Minister for the Environment christened the crusher with a full bottle of wine (bloody waste - I could have emptied the bottle first)!

Hopped up the road to Horowhenua, crushed a few hundred tonnes of bottles. This crushed glass was utilised in the leachate drain in the new Horowhenua landfill. Whipped down to Kapiti and staged a demo for interested parties and even appeared on TV3.

Sped up to Hamilton to the Waste MINZ Conference - great place to display, especially the Keep New Zealand Beautiful logos on the crusher. Roared up to Auckland, whipped the crusher out to Bastion Point for a promotion with Che Fu - what a rap that was.

Only home for a couple of days then nipped over to New Plymouth to the Womad Music Festival. Talk about music, music, music... great show. Every morning we had to crush the empty wine bottles (gee...lots of bottles)! It was interesting to note that the recycling system that was applied at Womad was a major success; there was just no litter around.

Go the crusher!
