IT'S OUR CHOICE

All of us involved with the activity of keeping New Zealand beautiful, do so by choice, rather than by chance. It reminds me of that old saying that, "Choice, not chance, determines destiny" ...and so it is with respect to how we are to deal with this environment we have been left to care for.

I am so grateful that so many people continue to be motivated to do something about keeping our environment clean, green and beautiful, by choosing to have an involvement with the programmes, administration and/or governance of Keep New Zealand Beautiful. In recent months the momentum of involvement and activity has continued and we keep welcoming new and enthusiastic members.

Soon the board will meet in Auckland to consider future directions and emphasis for the organisation. Be assured that no matter what decisions are made, about administration, funding and governance, grass roots membership and activity will still be the main core of our very existence.

I invite you to look around the region in which you live to see if there might be a chance for new and extended programmes to be commenced. Each programme area has already agreed to see if they might be able to extend into a neighbouring area. I would be happy to be involved and pay you a visit if you think I could help.

Meanwhile the beginning of activity reports on the website and in this publication is a great sign of the resurgence of local and volunteer support. Read them and get new ideas for your own local programmes. Thanks for choosing to be involved. It really is your choice, rather than chance, which will determine our environmental destiny.
