Chairperson's Report - Hon Roger McClay - Chairman KNZB board

Being involved in an organisation like "Keep New Zealand Beautiful' at a board level is an interesting, busy and varied thing to be doing. Engrossing is a great word to describe how much and at what pace things happen in KNZB in 2007.

For my part, all that's happening is enjoyable and I feel proud that the momentum to do with membership, sponsorship and awareness has continued at the pace set by the previous board and the team in our head office in Waikanae.

Given that this is KNZB's 40th year, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that so many people are now becoming aware of us and what we stand for and where we are going. This 40th year is developing into a bumper one for us.

In September the great team at Keep Waitakere Beautiful will host a big celebratory conference for us with exciting speakers and robust debate and a social time, appropriate for, and deserved by any good 40 year old. We are now part of the great Auckland Pacifika Festival.

We have some inspiring Television promotions in the pipeline. The board had some very useful over night strategic planning sessions following the board meeting in Waikanae recently. The Ministry and the Minister for the Environment like us and see us as #1 in the world of litter abatement ,environment enhancement, and pride producing activity.

We are talking to Local Govt at a local level and those few local authorities, which are not members, will all have been approached by the end of this year. We have major companies approaching us almost every week to see how they might help and be involved in the 'keeping things beautiful' phenomenon.

So, whilst hectic could be the best description of things on some days, every day is well described as engrossing and enjoyable. Thank you for your support. Our children deserve a world, which shows that people care about the environment and about preserving the beauty of the place all Kiwis call home.
