KNZB Strategic PlanIssuesThere are several critical issues currently facing the KNZB national organisation that are addressed as part of this Strategic Plan. ProfileAlthough KNZB has enjoyed a high national profile in the past, the organisation's profile has decreased dramatically in the last several years. If KNZB is to be seen to be the organisation most readily associated with litter abatement, beautification activities and enhanced civic pride in New Zealand then the organisation will need to work to increase its national profile. With that said, the majority of KNZB affiliate programmes have earned an excellent reputation and have a high profile in the communities where they are operating. The next step is for KNZB to reestablish itself as a national environmental organisation. FundingFunding is a major issue for the national organisation. The majority of funding for KNZB is obtained via annual membership fees from KNZB programmes and their Local Authority partners. KNZB is also fortunate to have the support of several corporate sponsors but current funding levels from membership fees and sponsorship is insufficient to fund a national environmental organisation. MembershipA critical component to the on-going success of KNZB is the existence of a vibrant, inspired and active network of affiliate programmes throughout New Zealand who are working toward the aims and objectives of the national organisation. In addition, having a large number of business and individual members will not only increase revenue to the organisation but will serve to increase KNZB's credibility as a national environmental organisation. To that end, increasing membership is an organisational imperative. KNZB welcomes membership by other groups involved in similar activities. Volunteer Recognition, Retention and RecruitmentVolunteerism is the heart and soul of KNZB and recognising the contribution that volunteers make to the success of the programme is essential to ensure the long-term sustainability of KNZB. In addition, retaining existing volunteers by providing them with appropriate support from the national organisation is also critical. Recruitment of new volunteers to assist with the governance of KNZB programmes is also an imperative for the organisation given that many of the existing volunteers are getting on in age. To that end, KNZB will be seeking to recruit younger community members to provide a leadership role at the affiliate level. PartnershipsMaintaining existing partnerships and forming new mutually beneficial partnerships is immensely important to the long-term survival of the organisation. As a priority, KNZB will be working to strengthen partnerships with its current Local Authority partners but will be also be looking to establish new Local Authority partnerships in the near future. Strengthening and establishing partnerships with governmental agencies and non-governmental organisations is also critically important.
